Terms of service
Last updated August 2026
These terms cover using Talent as a listener and as an artist. Plain language, no surprises.
Template notice: this is a starting draft, not legal advice. Have a South African attorney review it before launch, particularly the licensing and SAMRO sections.
1. Your account
You need an account to upload music, follow artists or build playlists. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself. You must be at least 13 years old, and under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission.
2. Content you upload
You keep ownership of everything you upload. By uploading, you grant Talent a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, stream and display that content on the platform, and to make the technical copies needed to do so (transcoding, caching, thumbnails). That licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies already cached.
You must own or control the rights to everything you upload. That includes the recording, the composition, any samples, and any features. If you cannot clear it, do not upload it.
3. What is not allowed
- Uploading music you do not have the rights to
- Impersonating another artist or misrepresenting who made a recording
- Artificially inflating play counts, follows or likes
- Hate speech, harassment, or content that is illegal in South Africa
- Scraping, reverse engineering or overwhelming the service
4. Copyright and takedowns
We respond to valid copyright complaints. If you believe something here infringes your rights, follow the process on the copyright page. Repeat infringers lose their accounts.
5. Advertising and subscriptions
Free listening is supported by advertising, including display ads and short audio breaks between tracks. A paid subscription removes ads. Subscription terms, pricing and refunds will be published before that tier launches.
6. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, and we will tell you why when we do.
7. Liability
Talent is provided as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the preceding twelve months.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and disputes fall to the South African courts.
