Copyright and takedowns
Last updated August 2026
Artists upload their own music to Talent. When something goes up that should not have, here is how to get it down.
Reporting infringing content
Email copyright@talent.co.za with:
- a link to the track, album or profile in question
- a description of the work you own, and proof of ownership
- your name, address and contact details
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the rights holder or the law
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate
- your signature (typed is fine)
We aim to action valid complaints within two business days. The uploader is told what came down and why.
Counter-notice
If your track was removed and you hold the rights, reply to the takedown email with your evidence. If the claim cannot be substantiated we restore the track.
Repeat infringers
Accounts that repeatedly upload infringing material are suspended, and their catalogue is unpublished.
Licensing in South Africa
Streaming recorded music in South Africa involves rights administered by organisations such as SAMRO (composition performing rights), SAMPRA (recording rights) and CAPASSO (mechanical rights). Talent is responsible for its own licensing obligations to those bodies; artists remain responsible for clearing samples and features in what they upload.
